A friendly tip: try loosening the mechanism by bending the fingers themselves (not from the rings) first ;)
This is the second version of my Overengineered Mechanical Fidget Hand, and it is what you have been asking for!
- 4 fingers - larger - easier to print with less stiff joints and improved thicker joins for better strength! - Left hand version and longer reach version This awesome print is fully functional straight off the printer—no supports, no assembly required (except for the thumb 😉).
Control the hand by pulling the rings, and you’ll be surprised at how strong the grip is! It’s ridiculously fun to grab anything (and anyone) around the house.
Assembly couldn’t be easier: just press-fit the thumb into its socket, and you’re ready to go. Enjoy your new fidget hand!
Guides and print profiles
Print profiles and steps
Right+Left Hand, Standart Settings, All Printers *Make sure you build plate is clean before printing*
- Thick bridges - Slowed first layer and overhang speed - Cross hatch infill
Multicolor - Minimal Waste - Both Version on Separate Plates Selectively placed color swaps adds a nice visual element and depth, while resulting in a small prime tower and minimal waste. In my colors of choice, waste was about 6 grams. Both versions on separate plates.
Both Hands One Plate | Stronger Palms (5 Bottom Layers) This profile is adapted for P1S , arranging both left & right hands together in one plate. Please note: this setup is not compatible with A1 mini due to build size limits. Full credit to the original creator — I’m only sharing this variation for anyone who might find it useful 🙏
- Arranged left and right hands in one plate - Increased bottom layers to 5 for stronger inner palms (better grip strength when holding things)
Optimized for A1 mini - adhesion problems I had really a lot of adhesion problems on A1 mini, but finally I printed it successfully:
- Separate plates for Hand and Thumb (to prevent an ugly stratification on the thumb) - Added raft for the thumb so that it doesn't fall - Added brim so that the fingers are surrounded and doesn't detach Removing the supports, the brim and the raft will be a significant work, but at least you will be able to enjoy this wonderful design!
PLA Speed Optimized_A1 mini compatible I've optimized the print settings for fastest print with minimal quality and material loss.
Thank you for sharing!
Stronger - 3 Walls, Gyroid infill, Arachne Sturdier Print Profile
- Increased wall loops to 3 (from 2) - Switched infill pattern to Gyroid (approx. same filament and time usage, but offers even support and is generally the preferred pattern) - Switched wall generator from Classic to Arachne
PETG 0.16 mm · Arachne · Gyroid · Nearest Seam (A1/A1M) Loved v1 model and even more the v2 - so here’s a PETG profile with love, which also works for bed slingers printers A1/A1 mini: using 0.16 mm , Arachne walls , Gyroid 15% , Nearest seam , plus stability tweaks: travel 600 mm/s , bridge 30 mm/s , overhang slowdowns 60/25/15/5/5 mm/s at 10/25/50/75/100% , and accelerations print 5000 , travel 9000 , initial-layer travel 5000 , initial-layer 300 , outer-wall 4000 , top-surface 2000 , inner-wall 0 (mm/s²).
Right Hand, 0.28mm Draft, 3W, X-Y -0.05mm (Tolerance Adj.) This profile is configured as a Draft + Strength variant of the Overengineered Mechanical Hand.
- Layer height: 0.28mm with Arachne, reducing print duration compared to 0.2mm. - Walls: 3 walls to reinforce the hand for repeated use. - Tolerance adjustment: X-Y hole compensation set to -0.05mm , loosening the joints slightly for smoother motion and easier assembly, when printing in draft. - Adhesion: Slowed first layer speed for reliable bonding. Tested on X1C with PLA, all joints released after plate cooldown and carefuly flexing fingers while pulling the rings. Movements become smoother the more you operate the hand.
0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill 2 plates i made the thumbs on different plates so you can print them a different color if you want.
better adhesion (2 raft layers added) better adhesion due to 2 raft layers added.
Faster print, with little quality lost and less filament. This is the fastest setting, taking only 1h 40mins on the Bambu Lab a1 without timelaspe.
0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill y
