Hueforge: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Donatello

Before printing- make sure your house is in order. This print uses nearly all of the plate, so make sure its clean. Also make sure your nozzle is free of debris. For best results - do not edit my Process settings in the 3mf files. I can't guarantee results if you make changes. You may notice some wispy strings at the end of the print based on your filament conditions. I hit these with heat gun and they clear right up.

I found these generated images of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was quite enamored by them and thought I would give this Hueforge thing a try. I then proceeded to lose 4 weeks of my life going down the rabbit hole that is Hueforge and color matching. I don't think they will ever be perfect in my eyes, but its time to set them free. So here is the first of four planned - starting with Donatello.

My chosen motif for the other turtles has been the bandana color as the background. I then did a alternate of each one using Magenta. Here are all 4 mounted on the wall. I used Hey Ben's Magnetic Wall Mount system. (I had to use two magnets on each print since its was designed for 200x200).

I really wanted to use just Bambu filament for these - but I couldn't find any mix of green that looked halfway decent. All the available Bambu filaments made him look more like the Hulk then the turtles…. So I had to venture outside of the Bambu lexicon for my turtle green: Overture Matte Army Green. Its readily available from multiple sources, relatively cheap and generated a pleasing shade of green. The good news is all my planned turtles will use this Green, so it will be used again. I added it to the Bill of Materials above. The rest are Bambu filaments.

I created two iterations: one with shine and one without.

The original plan was to have the shine, but after printing it I wanted to see what it would look like without it. Interestingly when showing these to friends and family the consensus is split which one is “better”. So I decided to upload them both. Each of these versions also has 5 color variants. Magenta was my first choice for background, but when printing the first few, I thought matching the background color to the turtle color would look more dynamic. I uploaded pre-configured 3mf files for each variant and color so you can decide. Go all green backgrounds for a turtle theme, match each turtle color or go for pop of color with a off the wall choice. I like options.

If you are using a Bambu printer with one AMS: all you should have to do is open the 3mf in Bambu Studio, hit slice and you are good to go. Make sure you match the colors to correct spots on your AMS before printing using the swap instructions below. It should look like this:

For the Bambu uninitiated- each version's color information is in the documentation section along with the stl files. You will have to add the colors and match them manually without using the pre-configured 3mf files.

Depending on what background color you choose determines how many pauses are required for one AMS. Please match the color print profile you select with the right pauses. If you are using the print profiles and my 3mf files on a Bambu printer with one AMS - the pauses are already configured for you:

Green, Magenta, or Red backgrounds- This requires 2 pauses with one AMS: Start with Black, Army Green, Indigo Purple, and Dark Brown. Add pause at layer 16 (during Army Green). Swap Black with Brown, Swap Indigo Purple with either: Green, Magenta, or Red. Add pause at layer 28 (during the background color). Swap Dark Brown with Jade White, Swap Brown with Lemon Yellow.

Purple background- This requires 2 pauses with one AMS: Start with Black, Army Green, Indigo Purple, and Dark Brown. Add pause at layer 20 (during Dark Brown). Swap Black with Brown, Swap Army Green with Jade White. Add pause at layer 29 (during the Jade White). Swap Brown with Lemon Yellow.

Yellow background- This requires 1 pause with one AMS: Start with Black, Army Green, Indigo Purple, and Dark Brown. Add pause at layer 20 (during Dark Brown). Swap Black with Brown, Swap Army Green with Jade White. Swap Indigo Purple with Lemon Yellow.

Print at 100% infill with a layer height of 0.08mm with a base layer of 0.16mm

The Model is 189.32x235mm in size

You may print at higher layer heights below the Base Thickness of 0.48mm The Max allowed Thickness is 2.96mm and the Actual Thickness is 2.8mm

(For A1 Mini, you can scale down X and Y to 70%, but don't scale down the Z height)
