Description

Overview of the project:

The Ratchet Core is a modular, strong and durable - fully 3D printed ratcheting driver tool. It uses a refined ratcheting mechanism based on over a year of testing and iteration, now built into a completely redesigned body with improved grip, a shorter form factor, and support for quick-swap bit storage modules.

To build this tool, you don't need to use any hardware at all - everything is entirely 3D printed. However, I highly recommend using three neodymium magnets - one to hold the bit, and two magnets for the modular connector (on each side). This will make it much more enjoyable to use.

Source files are available (.STEP) so you can create your own attachments for the quick-swap connector - unlocking the tool's full potential! For example - I created custom bit-storage modules so I can grab exactly what I need for a project and swap them out in seconds - no more searching for lost bits.

You can download a storage tray for all the ‘Bit Pods’ here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2834558-bit-pod-storage-tray-for-ratchet-core-7-slots#profileId-3158989

Assembly Guide:

6x3mm magnets need to be inserted in the bigger ¼" sprocket and the bit holder pods. 4x2mm magnets need to be inserted in the smaller precision sprocket.

Printing guide:

- Clean your plate before printing! - If using non-bambu filaments - perform flow rate and flow dynamics calibrations! - Works in PLA (if you want extra strength you can use ABS/ASA, PET-CF, PA or even PPA-CF) - Color of the filament matters mechanically, different pigments that are infused in the filaments change their mechanical properties - best results for this model were achieved in color white (for PLA)*. - Textured PEI Plate recommended. - ≤0.4mm nozzle recommended. - If you don't have an AMS, you can select a "Signle Color" profile - you will still have the aesthetic features visible. - If you want a quicker AMS print, please use the “Partial Color” profile - it has the side grip lines in the same color as the tool's body. *White PLA often requires a high concentration of titanium dioxide pigment, which can act as a nucleating agent. It usually changes the filled/polymer morphology and crystallization behavior and can increase the material's crystallinity, giving it higher tensile and yield strength than other colors. While performing my tests I noticed that from all the colors I have - white gave me the best results, that's why in terms of PLA from Bambu Lab, white is the best choice. Just keep in mind that it highly depends on the filament manufacturer.

Enjoy!
