Description
This is a simple, highly functional alignment jig/cradle designed specifically for installing heat-set inserts into the legs of the KWS Rack V.2 .
When pressing heat-set inserts into long, structural pieces like the rack legs, keeping the part perfectly flat and square to your insert press can be a balancing act. This cradle provides a perfectly leveled, stable channel that supports the leg from underneath. It is designed with tight, close-tolerance vertical walls to completely eliminate twisting and rocking, yet it allows the length of the leg to slide freely so you can quickly move from one insert hole to the next.
Key Design Features
- Perfect Precision Fit: This jig was designed by importing @ilanKush 's official .step file to derive the exact geometry. This ensures a perfect, close-tolerance fit that cradles the leg securely without rubbing or binding. - Built-in Relief Groove: A dedicated clearance channel is recessed directly underneath the heat-set insert section. If you accidentally over-press an insert slightly through the hole, the excess brass or displaced plastic won't impact, drag on, or melt into the jig. Slicer Scaling Tip
Want a longer cradle for even more stability? Because this jig has a uniform profile, you can easily customize the length right in your slicer! Just unlock uniform scaling and stretch/scale the model exclusively along its long axis. This will lengthen the jig without changing the critical width or height tolerances of the channel.
Print Settings
- Material: PETG or PLA - Walls/Perimeters: 3 walls - Top/Bottom Layers: 5 top and bottom layers - Infill: 10% Adaptive Cubic - Supports: None. Print it flat on its base. Because let's be honest: the only thing that should be permanently fused together in your homelab is your hyper fixation on network cable management, not your structural rack parts to your printing jigs. Happy melting!
