Description

Split Sphere Spinning Top

Spin the top. When it leans centripetal acceleration will pull the halves apart which then roll in a circle due to conservation of angular momentum. This model is adaptation of a design by Keiro Seto that is sold by Swiss toy manufacturer Naef.

This model is optimised to be printed with Bambu PLA. I found that some PLAs could not meet the tolerances required to assemble the model.

Superglue is required to glue the spindle into the bottom half-sphere. You may need to sand the spindle with 400+ grit prior to gluing. The spindle needs to be able to slide freely in the upper half-sphere.

I used a rubber band and some matchsticks to hold the model in place during assembly.
