Description

1943年9月，美国启动了一项针对火力和装甲的改进项目，其核心目标是研发一款能够突破德军“齐格菲防线”（西壁防线）坚固防御工事的武器。此外，为了应对情报中可能出现的德军超重型坦克（如“鼠”式坦克），美军也需要一款具备极强防护和火力的装甲车辆。

1944年3月，军事后勤部签署5辆订单时赋予的初始编号为T28，1945年，因其无炮塔结构，军方一度将其改为T95型105毫米火炮搭载车/反坦克歼击车，1946年6月，项目最终定名为T28超重型坦克。

原计划生产5辆样车并小批量生产25辆，但随着二战结束，订单被大幅缩减，最终仅生产了2辆样车。
