Description

This is the Marine Corps' F-35B Lightning II in STOVL mode. It is the only variant out of the three within the F-35 program that has the capability of Short Take-Off Vertical Landing. It was initially designed to be a light, agile multirole fighter comparable to the F-16, but as more capabilities were added, the aircraft gained a considerable amount of weight, earning it the name "Fat Amy" or the "Battle Penguin" due to its short wingspan compared to the length of its fuselage. Nonetheless, it is a highly capable and very lethal stealth penguin in the US military arsenal. This is a 1:46 scaled model .

Like all my models I've posted, every bit of this is drawn from scratch using Autodesk Fusion. The stand design I came up with was inspired by the Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) used on the F-35s, giving it a unique look that sets it apart from some of the stands you can find online.

If you enjoy this model and share a passion for 3D printing and aviation history like me, please drop a like and a boost!

Guides and print profiles

Print profiles and steps

All Printers, 0.16mm, 7% Triangular 0.16 layer height

Print with supports, tree supports recommended

7% infill on the body

Black/Grey Dual Color Details I added black coloring for the smaller pieces like the tires and fan. The pieces were reorganized to optimize print time. Total is around 11 hours.

***please note: to reduce print time and waste, the main fuselage is not multicolor, you must use a marker or paint for the canopy and the engine ***

Multicolor fuselage/wheels,0.16mm layer,2 walls,15% infill I used Bambulab translucent PETG to simulate a real aircraft canopy. Moreover I colored the jet engine and back ailerons in black to have a better contrast with the rest of the fuselage.

Like the original, but on a single plate The only modification I made is on the supports for the main body which are now “normal snug” to save a little bit of space
