8/14/2024 - I've released a new version rebuilt around improved smooth rolling, many (20+) alternate tread patterns, and a few other updates! I've also incorporated the updates into this model, so print this one if you want or check out the V2 design for many different pattern options. Everyone needs some tracks to drive around with their fingers!

This is a very satisfying and fun fidget, and also my first print in place model :)

Having a nice smooth running track requires well calibrated flow rate and pressure advance.

When first printed each track joint may take a tiny bit of force to free up; after that the tracks should run freely with little effort.

Printing

The model is made to work with and 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height. If you use a larger layer height some gaps will be fused together by the slicer.

If you are having trouble with your first print try a different filament, and please start with something simple like a plain PLA. Some specialty colors like silks mainly and some mattes lack the strength for this design to work well. Also, I strongly recommend printing In PLA; PETG tends to be hard to print things with small gaps without stringing or blobbing. Not that it's not possible, but you will probably have better luck with PLA, and no reason really to print in something more fancy.

If you are having trouble with durability of the pins or tracks, or just not being able to get things to free up, check out the Finger Treads XL model. It has bigger pins and is a little more forgiving because of its larger size. It's big enough its not quite as good of a fidget, but still a very satisfying print in place model and fun to play with.

The Original Slow first layer, to make small circles easier to print

0.2mm layer height

Make sure the bed is cleaned properly before printing - there are small touching points to the bed, if one gets loose you can lose the whole print.

OPTIMIZED - FINGER TREADS Made a few tweaks that should make it roll slightly better.

Treads only, if they broke swapping 0.2mm layer, 3 walls Same profile as the original poster.

I broke the treads trying to swap them between two colors so I reprinted the treads only.

0.2mm layer, 3 walls, 20% infill Printed stock, with eSun PLA PRO Blue. Took a bit of force to break some of the pieces free, but not much. Go around the track and make sure nothing is binding when you first get it off, and it spins nice and free.

TPU profile slowed down @ 0.2mm layer, 3 walls, 10% infill TPU Profile for Treads only.

2 colors, 2 Versions for wheel color AMS

135% Scale; 0.16mm layer; Use if adhesion is an issue Print if you're having issues with adhesion. I've used it for many of them and it works great 👍.

PLA Gears and TPU Tracks - 0.2mm layer, 3 walls, 20% infill The tracks are less smooth than PLA but give a nice feel.

Print separately so that you do not have to make purge towers.

0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 12% infill

0.28mm layer, 2 walls, 15% infill
