Description

Compatibility

This phone cradle fits the center console of the latest series Opel Corsa and Vauxhall Corsa, built from 2019 to present ( Series F ). This includes petrol, diesel and electric models in all trim variants.

Features

- Wireless Qi Phone Charger - Wireless AndroidAuto / CarPlay Dongle - Charging Status LED shining through divider bar

Build & Assembly Instructions

Purchased Materials:

Count Material

~ Heat-Resistant Filaments (*) Ideally, one translucent filament in an accent color of your choice, and one carbon-fiber infused filament for added stiffness.

~ CA-Glue / Super-Glue

6x M3x10 socket-head bolts (Amazon)

1x 20W Qi Charger Module (Amazon)

1x AAWireless Two (AAWireless) (**)

2x 0.5m 90° USB-C Cables (Amazon)

1x USB Power Supply for 12V DC Socket (Amazon)

(optional) 1x 1 mm thick Anti-slip Silicone Sheet (Amazon) Alternatively, Faux Leather or Neoprene Sheets Requires precise cutting, ideally with a cutting plotter or laser cutter. Alternatively, the pad can be 3D printed.

(optional) 1x Double-sided mounting tape, 1mm thick (Amazon) Not strictly necessary, but can reduce rattling of the components in the housing.

* No PLA! - summer heat melts PLA prints in the car. Use PETG, PC-PETG, ASA, ABS, etc. Potentially, use carbon-fiber infused filaments for better stiffness and heat resistance. ** At the time of this writing, the ‘AAWireless TWO’ does not support Apple CarPlay. The ‘AAWireless TWO Plus’ is slated to be released in 2025 with Apple CarPlay support.

3D-Printed Parts:

I recommend printing with a 0.6mm nozzle . When printing with a 0.4mm nozzle, increase the number of perimeters and infill density.

Part Notes

Base

- Settings: - 0.2 mm Layer Height - 3 Perimeters - 15% Grid Infill - Avoid Crossing Perimeters - Ideally use carbon-fiber infused filament. - Potentially, use a 10mm Brim to avoid lifting off the corners.

Lid

- Settings: - 0.2 mm Layer height - 3 Perimeters - 25% Grid Infill - Print up-side-down. - Carbon fiber may interfere with wireless charging coil. Thus, use a regular filament, without carbon fiber for this part! (If multi-material printing is possible, you can combine regular and carbon-fiber filaments for best results. Use a cylinder modifier with 70mm diameter to change to regular filament around the charging coil location, and carbon-fiber filament elsewhere.) - Optionally, use cylindrical modifiers to improve the strength of the 6 screw posts, using thicker walls and increased infill.

Divider

- Settings: - 0.15 mm Layer Height - 1 Perimeter - 0% Infill - 6 Top & Bottom Layers - Print this part on its side. - Ideally, with a translucent filament, allowing the LED status lights of the charging board to shine through the material. (This is also the reason to disable the infill and use thin walls. To add strength back to the part, increase the number of top & bottom layers.)

Ornament

- Settings: - 0.2 mm Layer Height - Solid Infill - Ironing on Top-Most Surface - Like the divider, print this part in your accent color of choice.

Cable Clips

- Print 3 copies! - Settings: - 0.2 mm Layer Height - 0.65 mm External Perimeter Width - Ideally, print in carbon-fiber infused filament.

Padding

- Only required, if not using silicone or leather padding! - Settings: - 0.2 mm Layer Height - Solid Infill - Ironing on Top-Most Surface

Assembly Instructions:

- Install the Wireless Charger in the Base - Connect the USB cable to the charging board first. It's inaccessible once the PCB is installed! - Place the square PCB into its mounting location, using the pins to align the board properly. - Optional: Add a piece of 1mm thick mounting tape to the back of the PCB. This is not strictly required, as the lid will secure the PCB in place, but it can help avoid any potential rattling of the part inside the housing. - Make sure to route the charging coil wires through the designated slot. - Using the adhesive backing of the charging coil, stick the coil into place.

- Install the Wireless AndroidAuto Dongle in the Base - Connect the USB cable to the dongle first. It's inaccessible once the dongle is installed! - Place the dongle in its receptacle. - Optional: Add a piece of 1mm thick mounting tape to the back of the dongle. This is not strictly required, as the lid will secure the dongle in place, but it can help avoid any potential rattling of the part inside the housing. - Cut the Silicone Pad - Using a cutting plotter or a laser cutter, cut the silicone pad. Both a DXF and SVG file are available for download. - Tipp: Gently score the protective film on the adhesive side of the silicone pad with a utility knife in multiple parallel lines. This allows you to remove the film more easily and in smaller sections later on. - Alternatively, you may 3D-print the pad and then attach it to the Lid with CA-glue.

- Assemble the Lid , with the Divider and Ornament - Slot the Divider into the Lid and attach with CA-glue. - Using the Divider for alignment, stick the silicone pad onto the lid. Ensure the outline is well aligned and no air bubbles are trapped under the pad. This is easier, if you remove the protective film in smaller sections from the adhesive backing, rather than all in one go. - Once the pad is attached, slot the ornamental lightning bolt into the lid from the back and attach with CA-glue.

- Attach the Lid to the Base - Collect about 10cm of slack of the USB cables in the wide slot in the Base. - Slot the Lid onto the Base, making sure not to pinch the cables. - Use the six M3x10 screws to firmly secure the lid to the base. Be sure to attach the screws gently, as not to strip out the plastic - Install Cable Clips in the car This step requires removing a trim panel from the car's center console. This can be scary at first, but it is a simple task and does not require use of any tools. The trim panel is held in place by three simple clips, which can be disengaged with a firm pull, and easily pushed back in place. - Firmly grasp the plastic trim panel that holds the USB and 12V sockets. This can be easier, if you grasp the flap of the 12V socket with one hand. - Pull the plastic panel straight outward (towards you). Do not pull the panel down or towards the side! The panel should come loose with a firm pull. Do not pull the panel too far, as the cables in the back of the panel (USB and 12V) only have about 10cm of slack! - Place the assembled charging pad into the tray below - Slot the USB cables into the three 3D-printed cable clips, then attach the cable clips to the corners of the trim panel - Reinsert the trim panel into its original location. You will feel it clicking back into place easily. Ensure the cable clips stay in the intended location. Avoid pinching any cables!

- Secure the Charging Pad in the car's tray - The charging pad should fit the center console tray perfectly and stay in place on its own. In case you experience any rattling, you may try adding thin double sided tape underneath the charging pad assembly, or on its sides.
