I've been using an old pasta sauce glass jar as my workbench trashcan for almost forever. Now it can find it's place on a neatly organised desk.

Using a glass jar as desk trashcan for your workbench has many advantages!

- cheap and easy to get before you bring them to recycling - resists all common workbench chemicals, solvents and greases - good heat resistance - watertight - can be sealed airtight with the included lid - fits any glass up to 76mm ∅ - dishwasher safe when cleaning Should something start to burn or smoke inside, you can screw on the lid to choke flames.

To keep the lid at hand at all times, you can insert magnets into one of the walls mid-print.

Since there's no way to make the lid clear other containers, you can stick it to one side.

Magnets

The bin accepts disc magnets commonly used with Gridfinity bins. 6mm ∅, 2mm thickness.

The side magnets get inserted mid-print and are a tight press-fit. For the side magnets the orientation does not matter.

The optional bottom magnets should be press fit as well. Feel free to glue them in with some CA-glue or epoxy if needed. Remember to take care of the polarity. (Default is North-up )

The corner holes do have droop compensation, so you don't need to waste time and filament on supports.

The .3mf project in the downloads already has a pause configured at the correct height to insert the magnets. The orientation of the side-magnets doesn't matter. They're a pretty strong press fit.

Recommended print settings and requirements

This is an easy print.

- The 0.20mm STRUCTURAL preset in Průša Slicer makes a solid base. - No supports needed - Your preferred filament that best suits your desk. (My personal preference is PET-G.) - Can be printed on a Průša mini or other small-format printers. - Prints in a little over 2½ hours on an original Průša CORE ONE with High-Flow nozzle. (standard 0.4mm) The .3mf project also includes a volumetric modifier for ironing the top surfaces only, to make it look great on your desk. Since the inside bottom will rarely be visible, ironing is turned off for that surface to not waste printing-time.

The parametric OpenSCAD construction will accept any round container that fits within a diameter of ∅ 77mm. (This seems to be a good fit for a wide range of jars used in the food industry.) I've tested multiple European vendors.

Source Code for OpenSCAD is included, should you like to modify this bin.

When not used with a jar, this Gridfinity bin is stackable.
