Description
Firrst time CAD, first design, second print I have ever done.
Did this mostly to learn stuff.
The black one in the pictures is nice but rather wasteful, taking multiple times the filament of the published design, so it will remain unpublished.
Features:
- Prints without supports
- Base acts as water basin/drain or watering system
- with or without clicking attachment to the pot
- Included freeCAD files
Printing:
Generell:
prusa suggests 4 perimeters for water tightness (PLA and PETG), this is what I tested
- standard slicing should do this with 2 perimeters, due to thin walls
- less is not tested, try at your own risk
- making sure design has 4 perimeters after slicing is suggested
Layer height: 0,2mm Profile: Speed
This should work fine.
The model:
Included STLs and also the CAD Files are oriented for easy printing. The pot "on its head" is so you do not need supports. Split into objects and put on your bed as needed or use multiple beds.
Material:
PLA will be fine for no click version I did not test the click version with PLA
PETG will work for both.
I would choose darker colors. Due to the design it is prone to collect some earth from the flower, even very tiny bits, which are easily spotted on white but you need some kind of brush to get them out.
Assembly:
It is really easy:
- Take flat insert and check orientation. The a little bit wider side is "up".
- Insert the insert into to pot until it clicks. Might have to push it in on every side until it clicks.
Optional: Use some wicking material to be able to draw water. Push through holes of insert.
Plant away :D
Parametric options and working with the design:
When opening the file you can directly adjust:
- Total height
- Total width
- Height of base and pot separately
- Amount of "ornaments"
- Number is amount of ornaments on on half (!) of one of the five "leaves".
Increasing the width might break the ornament orientation - simple fix, but will need some fiddling. I also have not tested bigger pots, as the "big one" (15cm) is already heavy when filled and hard to hold with one hand.
You can also break apart basically all features of the pot. The click mechanism, the ornaments, the insert... and change them. The base is depending on the ornament part, so it copies the form. Might have to adapt this when making major changes.
The click mechanism from base to pot has an angle of 10°. You can change it on both parts to make it tighter if needed. 30° was VERY(!!!) tight, I would suggest angles in range of 10°-20°.
It would also be possible to change the insert to a design that can work without wicking material - but i really, really do not need more planters right now....
