Description

In a rush?

Hate reading instructions and want to get down to it? You need to the base, shade, and lid. The two rings are optional for free rotation of the shade while keeping the power cord to the back. Each piece is properly oriented for printing when loaded into the slicer and ready to print provided that you align seams to the rear. PLA works great--on my 0.4 mm nozzle, I used 0.1 mm layers for the shade and 0.2 mm layers for everything else. 100% infill on the lid, 10% to 15% on the rest. No brim, no support. Enjoy!

Getting Started

This lamp is a tribute to NASA’s Dragonfly mission , the dual‑quadcopter lander headed for Saturn’s moon Titan in 2028 and arriving in 2034. Get a head start on the cool kids and print your Dragonfly lamp today!

The shade showcases three artist‑concept scenes of the Dragonfly lander on Titan , rendered as lithophanes that glow beautifully when lit. The base and lid both feature an embossed Dragonfly mission logo , tying the whole piece together as a cohesive celebration of the mission.

The design follows the same overall geometry as my Mars Rover lithophane lamp, but in a shorter, more compact form with a round shade and the same Bambu P1 LED light module (or equivalent) for clean, even illumination.

The Parts

The Dragonfly lamp comprises these parts. Bold indicates those with print files in this model.

- A base that houses the light module and supports the shade.

- A translucent shade , threaded for easy assembly and long-term stability.

- A translucent lid with threads for attaching to the shade.

- A Bambu P1 LED module or equivalent available from many sources.

- Optional coupler ring and base trim to enable free rotation mode (more on this below).

Print Settings

Dragonfly lamp STL files are ready for your slicer. Print recommendations:

- Layer height: 0.1 mm for the shade and lid, 0.2 mm for everything else

- Walls: 3–4 for crisp lithophane detail

- Infill: 100% for the lid, 10% to 15% for everything else

- Seams: Align to the rear

- Supports: No

- Brim: No

- Filament: PLA

- Colors: White or natural PLA for the shade and lid

For extra credit, consider using one of the Dragonfly mission colors for your base. The primary color of the mission is a rich yellow relating to the golden hue of Titan, and the secondary color is a rich red.
