Lathe Spindle Spider for 7X10 MiniLathe

This lathe spindle spider fits small lathes with a rear spindle thread of M27x1.5. This includes many 7x10/12/14 inch lathe models.

Assembly

There are 8 holes that need to be tapped M6x1.0 (the equivalent length ¼"X20 screws should work as well). I used 6x12mm screws to lock onto the spindle, and 6x25mm screws for holding the work-piece.

The large end fits over the spindle nuts. You may need to bore the ID out slightly to get a smooth fit (see photos), by clamping the internal ID in the lathe chuck. I needed to bore out about 0.010".

How to Use

Fit the large end over the spindle nuts, and then screw it onto the threads on the end of the spindle. Tight the four screws on the large end to lock it onto the spindle. I found I only needed the screws to be finger-tight. It may be that fewer screws (or no screws at all) would work just as well, but I did not test this.

To use with work pieces extending through the spindle hole, unscrew the screws on the small end enough to allow the work piece to fit through. Clamp the working end in the lathe chuck as you normally would, and then adjust the four screws to hold the extended end centered in the spindle (see photo).

Print Instructions

Print in PETG using the 3mf or gcode files provided. In general :

- 4 perimeters - 25% rectilinear infill - large end up
