Description
🇲🇽 Welcome to Yucatán!
The Ancient Ruins Collection - Mesoamerica is a dedicated sub-collection about the legacy of past civilizations in parts of what is present-day Mexico and Central America.
This model was designed by Dany Sánchez , available in two versions:
- Current state (ruins) - Hypothetical reconstruction The Arch of Kabáh ( ka-BAAH ) is one of the structures still standing in the ancient Mayan city of Kabáh, in the Puuc region of the Yucatan peninsula of southeastern Mexico.
Kabáh is one of the many small cities that the Maya civilization built in the Puuc region of Yucatan, known for its low hills landscape, in contrast with the rest of the peninsula, which is very flat . Other cities in this region are Uxmal , Labná , Sayil, and Xlapak, all located within a few miles from each other. It is believed that Kabáh means “Strong Hand” in the ancient Yucatec Mayan language, and written with the glyph of a clenched fist. Most of the architecture now visible was built between the 7th century and 11th centuries CE.
One of Kabáh's prominent buildings is this monumental arch located on the sacbé, or main road, coming from nearby Uxmal, marking the entrance to the city. Although the archaeological findings show the city is quite large, only a fraction is excavated and available for visiting. This arch is the only cleaned-up and semi-restored building in the western part of the city. The Palace of Masks and other more known structures are on the eastern side. It was originally painted red, very austere in design, with almost no decoration except for probably a roof comb, a typical feature of Mayan architecture ( from Wikipedia ).
