Description
READ THIS:
The foam board I use is claimed to be 5mm thick, so I designed this mount to fit that tightly. In reality, my foam was slightly thinner, but the part still fit well. Your results may vary depending on the thickness of the foam you use.
Installation
It's pretty simple really. Put some hot glue on the surfaces of the protrusions that will contact the foam and then push the motor mount onto the edge of the foam part. You can squeeze in a little more hot glue around the edges afterwards if you'd like, but just make sure not to block any of the holes with glue.
Also, make sure that the mounting holes for the motor are not obstructed by the foam when you install the mount. You can attach the motor with small screws through the small holes before or after you glue the mount to the plane.
Backstory
I designed this part to mount a FliteTest “A Pack” (1806 2280kv) motor to the flat plate wing of a R/C Razor Crest I've been building. I have only tested it with this type of motor, but it should work with similarly sized ones that use similar screws. So far it has held up to my testing, but I'm still waiting on a few electronics so the Razor Crest has not flown yet.
Printing Stuff
The prototypes were printed in PLA with 0.2mm layers and a 0.4mm nozzle. Since the motor may heat up while in use, it would probably be a good idea to print yours in PETG or another more heat-resistant material if that's available. I recommend printing this with the side that will face the motor contacting the build plate.
