Description

Double-side wine cork trivet. The best and elegant way to upcycle wine corks. This is a remix of original "Wine Cork Trivet" by Rikkers. When working with original model I found that it requires to use corks with more or less similar diameter. Scaling it to fit other corks leads to proportional increase of all other model parts and sometime may exceed printer bed size. So i created a parametric model that allows to create custom trivets. Remixed version can be used on both sides and since the cork is softer than a plastic it stands more securely on a surface.

Following parameters can be set:

- Cork diameter

- Cork height

- Trivet base part height

- Outer wall

- Inner wall

- Size of the inner thorn

Attached is the Fusion360 project file where you can customize model parameters.

There is also a trivet main part (frame) with values pre-defined for corks of 21mm diameter and two height versions of 14mm and 18mm so the cork itself protrudes from the trivet by 2mm or 4mm on both sides. An appropriate align tool for both sizes are also attached.

14mm cork height, 2mm on both sides

18mm cork height, 4mm on both sides

I recommend to choose wine corks of a similar diameter withing 1mm range. Measure corks diameter at both ends. In most cases corks are slightly thicker in the middle. Taking wine corks of 21-22mm diameter for a 21mm trivet frame size fits great and tightly. Generally speaking I would recommend selecting corks in 1mm range greater than the CorkD parameter for the trivet frame. Bigger corks may appear rather difficult to insert into frame.

Potentially increasing the size of the inner thorns which fix the corks inside the trivet may increase diameter variations. But keep it in 1mm to 1.6 (i assume) range as they may tear corks.

To insert the cork into a trivet base please use the align tool. The tool is a sort of spacer that allows to insert the cork so it would be placed at the center of the trivet base part. The tool depends on most of model parametrs. So if you customize the trivet do not forget to export and print the aligh tool as well.

For better result I recommend to cut the wine cork with a sharp blade on both sides so the cork ends would be flat and smooth. You can use an original cutting tool by Rikker available with original trivet model or you can create an over-engineered version by this link: https://www.printables.com/model/1696221-wine-cork-cutter-jig
