Description

This is a remix of Davide83's great [Battery/USB - solder fume extractor](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3538731) design, with some improvements:

* Add **supports for fitting electronics inside**: No glue, no hassle, just insert components and they will fit. * Add **grid for protecting the fan** (IP20). * Add **reinforced side clips** for attaching the upper part to the bottom * Add **holes for battery charger status LEDs** * Add **open source CAD files** for bottom case and fan grid

In order to accommodate the improvements listed above, I did the following changes:

* **Remodelled the bottom case using fusion360**. The F3D CAD file is provided so you can adjust it to your own components and needs. * **Modelled a fan grid using fusion360**. F3D CAD file provided so you can adjust it to your own fan. * **Edited side grooves on the upper part** for fitting the reinforced side clips. The change is very simple so I did it directly on the STL file using Blender. * The **middle part is unmodified**, but reuploaded here for convenience.

I used the following components to make this project:

* 18650 battery (salvaged) * 18650 battery holder ([aliexpress](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006283753220.html)) * TP4056 USB-C battery charger module ([aliexpress](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006246327518.html)) * MT3608 Boost Converter ([aliexpress](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006361814667.html)) * 3-position switch (salvaged) - Edit CAD file to adjust to your switch * Noctua fan NF-S12A FLX (salvaged) (*) * Arduino PIN header to make fan connector (salvaged) * Solder smoke carbon filters ([aliexpress](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001115805094.html)) * Adhesive anti-slip rubber feet pads (optional, salvaged)

(*) When choosing your fan, if possible, pick a pressure-oriented fan model (for heatsinks).

Alternative components:

* Noctua NF-F12 iPPC-3000 PWM (recommended by [PerG01](https://www.thingiverse.com/perg01) in [make:1222201](https://www.thingiverse.com/make:1222201))

Build notes:

* Depending on your parts, especially the switch, you may need to **adjust the bottom case CAD model** before printing. Try printing each edited support individually to check that components fit properly (use "cut" feature in your slicer) * **See photos for wiring instructions**. Cut wires of appropriate length and put heat shrink tubing on solder points. * You may need to **slightly overclock your fan by supplying 13V**. That wasn't needed for the Noctua fan I used, which is already quite powerful at 12V, but I did some tests with a Cooler Master fan I had laying around that was too slow at 12V. * The **MT3608 Boost Converter may have a defect causing voltage not to be adjustable**. If you face the same issue, it should be resolved by shorting two pins on the potentiometer (see photos). * The provided grid clips onto the Noctua fan I used. **Depending on your fan, you may need to adjust the CAD file for the grid to fit properly**. * **Remove the rubber parts from Noctua fan** to fit properly. * **Cut the solder smoke carbon filters** down to 12x12 cm for them to fit properly.
