Michigan Rummy - Card Game

🪙 Step 1 — Everyone Antes Up

Before anything happens, every player puts one chip into each pot on the board:

KQ♥

J♥

10♥

Everything starts loaded and ready.

🃏 Step 2 — Deal ALL the Cards

Deal out the entire deck evenly to everyone and DEAL ONE EXTRA HAND.

If cards don’t split perfectly, that's okay.

the dealer can choose to use swap their hand for the extra hand before play. if they do, their original hand is discarded. They are not allowed to look at the extra hand before deciding, they can look at thier orignial hand. If they do not choose the extra hand players can bid the spare deck (usually for 1 chip per card) before anything else happens. chips used to buy are placed into the kitty pot (center)

Now everyone has their full hand — time for the first round!

♣️ Step 3 — Play the Poker Hand (Round 1)

The first contest is the Poker Pot in the center.

Everyone checks their hand

if you wish to enter the poker hand you must put one more chip into the poker pot. you select your five best cards to make the best poker hand. you can raise the pot forcing other players to call, raise, or fold.

Best poker hand wins the Poker Pot 🏆

When someone scoops that pot… the real game begins.

♥️ Step 4 — Play Hearts + Kitty at the Same Time (Round 2)

All the labeled pots are now “live”:

A♥, K♥, Q♥, KQ♥, J♥, 10♥, 7-8-9, and the Kitty.

How Round 2 Works

1. Winner leads ➤ 🚦

Winner of the poker hand leads and lays down their lowest card.

2. Build the run ➤ 🔢

Players must lay the next number up in the same suit.

Example: Lead 4♦, next is 5♦, then 6♦, etc.

3. Play a special card? Win that pot! 💰

Playing a card that matches a pot lets you instantly collect it.

Examples:

Lay A♥ → take the Ace pot

Lay K♥ or Q♥ → win their pots
