Skadis mount for AMS & AMS 2 Pro (printable on A1 mini)

I wanted to mount my new AMS 2 Pro on my Skadis wall. I needed a sturdy mount that could be printed on A1 mini and fit the narrow 36x56 cm Skadis wallboard. I also wanted to tilt it a little so that it could be opened comfortably, but not so much that the spool would no longer be stable on the rollers. So I ended up choosing 20 degrees.

So here is the result of the engineering process:

- The mount is printable on A1 mini. - It is angled a bit, so the AMS can be opened comfortably. Also the spools are stable on the rollers. - The venting holes are not blocked, and there is space under and behind the AMS. - Also there is a optional center piece which can hold a full size AMS hub, and adds extra support to the AMS. The brackets were printed from PETG-HF.

I also made an AMS HT mount with the same design.

Update

I recently discovered not all the AMS 2 Pro-s are the same. In fact, in terms of side slots, it doesn't even matter whether it's AMS or AMS 2 Pro, because I saw AMS with the same slots as my AMS 2 Pro, and other AMS 2 Pro with different layout. I did some research and I found there are several versions of the AMS cases. It seems only the front and the back stiffeners are the same.

I have updated the design and now it is hopefully compatible with all AMS types. However, I have also included a test model so that you can test whether the given AMS layout is really supported before printing.

Although the new version has fewer supports than the older version, based on my tests, this doesn't matter much because the weight is mostly on the legs and not on these supports.

Assembly

The model is too large for the printer, so I designed coupling points. The connections can slide together with some careful push and can easily be glued. I used a super bond power gel.

For the AMS Hub holder center piece I used M3*5*4.2 heat inserts. (I could easily push them in at 240 degrees Celsius.)

Fitting

I designed the hooks to tightly fit into the Skadis wallboard. So after adjustment it requires some firm pressures and pulling down to lock. But afterwards it is fixed. Once you have securely attached the two side brackets, you can easily attach the AMS 2 Pro. The center piece is optional. I use it for the AMS Hub. I also sticked two pieces of anti-slip sheets to the center bracket to compensate the feets of the AMS. Otherwise it won't really hold its part.

AMS Hub holder

The AMS 2 Pro and an AMS HT are connected to my A1 mini printer. The AMSes are located above the printer so the suggested position of the AMS Hub - A1 series is not ideal. A hub above the printer with a right size PTFE tube seems to be better. And because it is a fixed position a full size AMS Hub works well too. It is even better because the shortage of the A1 series Hub I still couldn't buy any. (When I can I'm going to design an adapter for that too.)

The AMS Hub is positioned on the center piece. I used M3*5*4.2 heat inserts for the screw holes. (I could easily push them in at 240 degrees Celsius.) Then the original screws came with the AMS Hub can be used to fixing the Hub.

The PTFE tube goes throught the holder part before goes into the AMS Hub. This way the weight isn't on the holder and not on the Hub. I used a 60 cm PTFE tube. It is important to have a loop in it, so the printer had can move freely and there is no stress on the tube.

The space between the hub and the wall is a little bit tight, but I'm going to use only the two side holes. However the middle holes are also usable after some curling of the tubes.

AMS 1&2 version The multipart version of the AMS & AMS 2 Pro mount. Printable on A1 mini also.

The brackets have been updated to support all AMS box versions as much as possible. But you can test your version of AMS with the Tester model, before the full blown printing.

AMS 1&2 version - One piece for H2 I made a one piece version for the H2 series owners.

Differences from the 2 pieces version:

- It is 1 cm shorter (4mm at the front, 6mm at the back). I didn't want it to reach all the way to the edge of the build plate. It's better to leave a little margin for safety. According to my measurements, this 1 cm should not affect usability. - The optional center piece doesn't include the AMS holder. I assume a H2 owner won't use that, so a plain version would be better. Tell me if I was wrong! I can not print this model, because I have only an A1 mini. Therefore, if anyone would test it, I would be happy if they would share their experiences and suggestions.

AMS 1&2 version - Tester This is a low cost, fast print tester.

The universal AMS-Skadis mount uses the same pattern to hold the AMS, so if this one fits into the side slots of your AMS, then the mount will also fit. If it doesn't fit, then don't print the model, because it won't fit also!

3 slot AMS only version

3 slot AMS only - one piece model for H2 I made a one piece version for the H2 series owners.

Differences from the original version:

- I made it 1 cm shorter (4mm at the front, 6mm at the back). This version is only for an AMS 2 Pro with 3 slot side! I'm going to make an other version later which supports the 5 slot version too.

I can not print this model, because I have only an A1 mini. Therefore, if anyone would test it, I would be happy if they would share their experiences and suggestions.
