Rimless Aquarium Corner Lid Clips

This is a corner clip designed for rimless aquariums. It seats directly onto the corners of the tank and supports glass, acrylic, or polycarbonate lids.

Important Fitment Information

During development, I learned that the float glass used in aquarium construction can vary slightly from its nominal thickness due to manufacturing tolerances. For example, 5mm glass may actually measure anywhere from approximately 4.8mm to 5.2mm.

To account for these variations, I have created two versions of each size to help achieve the best possible fit for your specific aquarium. Please read the fitment details below before printing.

Specifications

Recommended Material: PETG

PLA is not recommended for this application, as it can become brittle over time when exposed to the warm, humid environment surrounding an aquarium.

Available Sizes: 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm, 8.0mm, 10.0mm, and 12.0mm

A 3.0mm version has also been included for de-rimmed aquariums.

Fit Options

Standard Fit Designed for glass panels measuring slightly above the nominal thickness.

Precision Fit Designed for undersized glass panels. If your tank glass measures exactly at or below the nominal thickness (for example, 8.0mm or less for an 8mm tank), print the 8mm Precision Fit version.

Lid Compatibility

Designed to support glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate lids up to 8mm thick.

When using thicker glass lids, keep the overall lid weight in mind. While the clips are designed to provide a secure fit, excessively heavy lids may require additional support depending on the aquarium size and lid design.

Current Design Status

This release includes corner clips only.

Matching side support clips are currently in development and will be added in a future update for larger aquariums and heavier lid configurations.

Installation Instructions

1. Measure Your Glass

If you have calipers, measure the glass thickness before printing.

If you do not have calipers, print a single test clip first to verify fitment before printing a full set. A separate print profile is included for single-clip testing.

2. Clean the Glass

Ensure the aquarium glass corners are completely clean and free of residue before installation.

3. Install the Clips

Slide the clip directly onto each corner of the aquarium glass. The fit should be snug.

Internal ribs are built into the design to increase grip and improve retention as the clip is pressed into place.

Fit Adjustment

If the fit is too tight: Lightly file or scrape the internal ribs until the desired fit is achieved.

If the fit is too loose: Try the next smaller size variant or use the Precision Fit version.

Change Log 24Jun26 - During creation of the Rimless Lid Clips I discovered a minor error in these models in the larger sizes that would drop the top lower then wanted. I have redone all the files and reuploaded to correct this error. So now all clips have an 8mm drop as intended.
