Boost Me Boosts help encourage my journey and making models free to you! Door-mounted blinds are useful right up until the door moves and the lower rail starts drumming against it like an irritated woodpecker.

This redesigned hold-down clip keeps the lower portion of the blind secured against the door, reducing swinging, rattling, and impact when the door opens or closes. It mounts through two recessed screw holes and uses a smooth retaining hook to capture the lower rail or edge of the blind.

The design has been rebuilt with a cleaner, more modern profile than a simple rectangular bracket. Tapered surfaces, rounded transitions, and softened exterior edges make it look more intentional while also helping distribute stress through the body of the clip.

Strength through intentional print orientation

The angled print orientation is not just for appearance or easier printing. It is part of the structural design.

FDM prints are directionally dependent because they are created from individual layers bonded together. Build orientation can significantly change how a printed part performs under bending loads.

This clip is intentionally positioned on the build plate so the expected force from the blind does not pull directly across a single horizontal layer seam. Instead, the layers pass diagonally through the mounting plate, base, and retaining hook.

That orientation helps:

- Spread the load through a longer section of the part - Reduce direct peeling stress between layers - Place more of the load into shear, compression, and continuous extrusion paths - Prevent the hook and mounting plate from separating along one obvious weak layer - Make the strongest direction of the print better match the direction in which the clip is actually loaded In plain English: the clip is printed at an angle so the blind pulls through the structure of the print instead of trying to peel its layers apart.

Large radii at the bends also help reduce concentrated stress at the transitions between the mounting plate, base, and retaining hook.

- Material: PETG - Layer height: 0.10 mm - Wall loops: 5 or 6 - Infill: 35–50% - Infill pattern: Gyroid, cubic, or rectilinear - Top and bottom layers: 5 or more - Brim: Recommended for stability - Supports: Use the included profile or add only where your printer requires them - Speed: Moderate outer-wall and overhang speeds - Cooling: Appropriate for your selected material For this type of part, additional walls are generally more useful than simply filling the entire interior with infill. The mounting transitions and retaining hook should receive the greatest attention.
