203mm Telescope Solar Filter & Storage Box

Solar filter holder designed for a 203 mm telescope tube , including a storage box and a solar filter housing for the finder scope.

For the solar film, I used Baader AstroSolar Safety Film (20 × 30 cm) intended for visual solar observation.

Finder Scope Filter

The finder scope solar filter is based on the Universal Finder Scope Solar Housing created by MakerWorld user Rados :

I made a modification to the storage box and include my modified version with this project.

Recommended hardware

For assembly, I recommend:

- 8 × M3 × 10 mm screws - 8 × M3 nuts Recommended material

I recommend printing the parts that will be exposed to direct sunlight in PETG or another heat-resistant material .

I also recommend using white or another light color for the solar filter parts. Since these components are pointed directly at the Sun, a light-colored material will absorb less heat and reduce the risk of the printed parts heating up and deforming.

IMPORTANT – Solar Observation Safety

Never look directly at the Sun without a proper and undamaged solar filter. Permanent and irreversible eye damage can occur in seconds.

Before every use, carefully inspect the solar film for holes, tears, scratches or other damage .

The solar filter must be securely attached to the front of the telescope so that it cannot accidentally fall off or be removed during observation.

Always follow the safety and installation instructions provided by the solar film manufacturer .

If you are unsure about the condition, installation or safety of the filter, do not use it for solar observation .
