Описание
This is the Mockingbird Mag , a high-capacity 3d printable slim angled talon mag with a bunch of different catch options to support as many blasters as possible. It uses Compound Mag (by RedCowl) geometry, but combined into a single piece and printed at a 45 degree angle, like the Hubris Mag (by donutcat), and my own Moxie Mag . Printing at an angle is useful for several reasons. You can print higher capacity magazines by making better use of your print bed, the layer lines do not interfere with dart feeding or gravity drops, and the mag as a whole is more durable.
Hardware
I use McMaster Clip-On Constant-Force Springs for my mags. I prefer these to the Foamblast-style springs because those have a far heavier load than necessary, and can cause squished darts and miss-feeds, especially when using old darts.
0.2lb load - my preferred load, can feed semi-auto blasters as fast as I can pull the trigger
0.4lb load - good load for higher DPS full auto
0.6lb load - maybe for super high DPS dart hoses
I have added a Foamblast-specific follower if you still want to use them.
The newest update allows you to screw the endcap into the magazine body with a 4-40 x 3/8" countersunk screw .
Printing
Good bed adhesion is required, especially for the longer mags. You will need a brim. You may want to print more slowly than usual to avoid knocking the mag down. You may want to avoid printing these on bed slingers.
I print mine in PETG at 0.20mm layer height, 4 walls (so the entire mag is walls) at 60mmps with a 20mm brim. I have had no layer shifting issues or mags falling down with these settings.
Assembly
- Attach the spring to the slot on the top the mag, feed the end of the clip back into the slot below to keep it out of the way. - Lubricate the groove opposite of the spring channel. Just a bit of lube at either end will be enough for smooth operation after it spreads to the rest of the groove. - Using a ruler or some other long stick-like object, unravel the spring down to the bottom of the mag along the channel until it sticks out of the bottom of the mag - Affix the follower to the remaining coil of spring. Do NOT release the follower/spring without covering up the dart feeding lips at the top of the mag with your finger first, or you may snap one of the lips off. - Attach the endcap to the bottom of the mag. Attach it to the magazine with a 4-40 x3/8" countersunk screw, or glue it in place. Updates
8/21/2025 - Added a TPU bumper endcap similar to the Moxie Mag's. I like to print mine with 2 perimeters and 10% infill so they are nice and squishy.
7/15/2025 - Another large update, this time to update the endcap. All magazines and the endcap have been updated to include a hole for a 4-40 x 3/8" countersunk screw. These are the same screws that Sillybutts and Captainslug use for most of their builds, so you probably have some hanging around. This allows you to secure the endcap in place, and should make traditional magazine springs usable without gluing the cap down. I have re-adjusted the size of each mag to compensate for losing some of the mag body to the endcap. The old endcap will still work as well as it ever has on the new mags, and will increase listed mag capacity by ~3 darts. All the old magazines will still be available in the ARCHIVE folder if you preferred them.
5/27/2025 - HUGE update! Everything has been improved, consider this Mockingbird Mag 2.0! Major improvements include:
Improved tolerances! The mag is now thinner, it plays much more nicely with tight magwells! The mag gravity drops from most magwells now!
Improved follower! The follower has been adjusted to give drum springs additional clearance to avoid the follower getting pinched on the last few darts!
Additional Blaster support! There are now 6 versions :
- Nightingale - Diana - ZWQ Fire Rat - ZWQ Viper (I do not have a viper to test with, please let me know if there are issues) - SMILEY-Only - Nightingale+Diana I've really tried to pull out all the stops to make this the best magazine I can, please let me know if if you have any issues or requests!
6/6/2025 - Added 6 and 8 dart SMILEY-Only mags, for JrGarlic. I have not tested these, they may be too short, endcap may interfere. Looking into a low-profile endcap.
6/11/2025 - Added a low-profile endcap. This can be inserted into the end of the mag, doesn't lengthen the mag at all, and is flush with the rest of the body. It should fit anywhere the mag fits. It reduces the magazine capacity by ~2 darts though.
