Articulated Horseshoe Crab

Basic information Horseshoe crabs earned their name thanks to the distinctive horseshoe-like shape of their shells. They're basically living fossils that have roamed the oceans for over 400 million years without any major changes in their appearance. They're also one of very few species that have copper-based blood with a unique vibrant blue color.

Now you have the opportunity to add this fascinating animal to your collection, for example to compliment the Articulated Trilobite 3D model from my public model library! As per usual, the model files are thoroughly optimized for 3D printing, and the crab prints in place with no supports or post processing necessary. Just make sure your print surface is clean and well adhering, and you're ready to go!

Files information I've included one .zip folder with all model files which you can find under other files . The singlecolor .stl is just a placeholder.

Recommended material PLA

Recommended layer height 0.2 mm or lower

Recommended infill at least 15%, Gyroid

Support settings the model doesn't require any supports

Scaling The model is scalable, but you might face issues such as weak adhesion to the print surface or fragile links when down-scaled excessively.

Print orientation Default, laid flat on the belly

Adhesion aid The contact area with the buildplate should provide a sufficient grip. However, if your print surface suffers from poor adhesion, consider using an adhesive spray or some other kind of adhesion booster. Using a brim is possible but not recommended as it would be too difficult and inconvenient to remove afterwards.
