# mosquito trap product BG-CAT

(around 2020 .. 2026) See the link below for the commercial product, that is really efficient against the tiger mosquitoes. The design evolved since, but this cover will fit also the 2 newer design. Enhancements : after one summer, I saw some flaws in the printed parts (under folder V2), and updated on 7/5/2027 the V4. The cover allox the inner cone to fit tight without excessive force, and has chamfer fillet inside for robustness, and outside to avoid printing support. It works well with the known design releases of the Biogent Moustic Trap

## clear cover

This is a replacement part for the cover of the mosquito trap product BG-CAT by GIOGENTS (links below), that let female mosquito lay eggs in stale water through a net, so that neither larvae nor the mother can escape. Parts are not sold, and this model has been modified several times.

## Material

The black parts (bucket, funnel) are made of stronger plastic that had weathered at least 5 years, but the cover is clear plastic (to lure mosquitoes around the top, so they wont find the exit and fly on a glue sheet and meet their end. Clear plastic becomes brittle with sun (the polymer is cracked by UV), and breaks easily.

As PLA is not appropriate for outdoor (long exposure to heat, rain and UV), I choosed to print it with PETG, enough flexible, UV-resistant and accomodate a sufficient range of temperature (The trap must be mostly in shade, for mosquitoes to choose it to lay egg.

This should resist better then original part to summers outside, as the PETG is both water and UV resistant. After the first summer outside and winter in the garage, it has not shown any alteration of transparency or flexibility

## Design Process

I modelled from the original part, (below): Full defined geometry (sketch1) in front plane for the profile, revolve around z, and (sketch2) top plane for the hooks, and export. you have STL and SMF. See the pictures and STL files in printable (below)

Since the design has evolved as seen on the website, I may also deisgn the black top funnel to upgrade the older models (I have 6 of them) to match the new ones (2 bought this spring 2025) with a black coping around the funnel. This may supposedly be more efficient in luring and catching the mosquitoes.
