Enclosed Prusa Core One with side doors, MMU3 buffers and integrated filament routing

This project is the result of my goal to make the Prusa Core One fully enclosed while achieving clean, stable and reliable MMU3 filament routing without cluttered PTFE tubes.

The goals of the project were:

- A fully enclosed Core One

- Filament placed on both sides

- Separate buffers for selected MMU3 channels

- A design that looks finished and integrated – not like a temporary mod

Enclosure with smoked acrylic

The printer is enclosed using smoked grey transparent acrylic (TSMA3, 3 mm) , purchased from interglas.dk .

Used acrylic panels:

- 2 pcs – 365 × 147 mm

- 2 pcs – 365 × 350 mm

The acrylic provides good visibility of the printer, a clean and professional appearance, and improved thermal enclosure, especially around the filament spools on the sides.

All acrylic panels are mounted using black 8 mm screws , and the rest of the construction is also assembled with black screws and lock nuts to maintain a consistent look.

Side doors (left and right)

Separate side doors for both the left and right sides have been designed to provide easy access to:

- Filament spools

- Buffer systems

- PTFE routing

Each door consists of multiple printed parts (front, back, top, bottom, brackets and handle) and is matched to the acrylic panels listed above.

The hinges on both side doors are mounted using 3 pcs black M3 × 30 mm screws , with lock nuts on the inside .

The original mounting holes in the Core One frame are used, so no drilling or permanent modification of the printer frame is required.

To keep the doors securely closed, the following is used:

- 3 pcs Ø8 × 3 mm magnets in each door (front)

- Matching magnets in the frame corners

PTFE pass-through behind the MMU3

At the top rear edge of the angled section behind the MMU3 , two PTFE pass-through holes (Ø5 mm) have been added:

- One hole on the left side

- One hole on the right side

These pass-throughs are used for the PTFE tubes that route filament from the MMU3 to the side buffers/boxes, ensuring clean routing without sharp bends.

MMU3 filament routing

The MMU3 setup is divided into two separate filament routing systems to minimize friction and improve reliability.

Filament 1 and 5 Filament 1 and 5 are routed to separate buffers mounted above the side doors .

Each buffer is secured using 2 pcs Ø12 × 3 mm magnets in the bottom frame , keeping the buffer closed and stable during operation.

The buffer wheel used is the original PRUSA filament buffer wheel .

Filament 2, 3 and 4 Filament 2, 3 and 4 are routed through a three-channel buffer cassette , which is a more compact solution and takes up less space.

Conclusion

All parts have been tested on my own Prusa Core One with MMU3 , and the design is based on practical, real-world use and daily operation.

This project is shared freely so others can build upon it, adapt it, or use parts of the solution.
