Audi 80 B4 / Competition Spoiler risers

Overview

Hi, Audi 80 and its Competition version have been one of my favourite car. I have worked on these wing risers, on and off, for about 2 years, constantly making new changes. I have used multiple versions on my own car and few earlier printed parts were sold to friends. But now I'm ready to make these 3D print files available for purchase to everybody. I have seen multiple different ways to solve the riser problem, but never have I seen it done like mine, with TWO separate parts. This choice was made to give the user the freedom to choose exactly what material to use for each part and no need to waste expensive technical materials, only for them to be covered by paint. These risers are NOT 1 to 1 copy of the risers used Audi race series cars, they have been designed to raise your wing by 50mm and to look good doing so. Pictures of the final riser shape and fitment have been provided for reference.

Versions (B3 work in progress, coming soon)

These files are for Audi 80 B4 and Competition version with no middle stands. (Marked RED ) I'm also in the progress of making a version for Audi 80/90 B3 spoiler, with middle stands. (Marked BLUE ) That version will include the extensions for the two centre stands too.

Pricing

So let's talk about the pricing. Yes I know its quite a large amount for JUST A FILE, but hear me out. Buying this file you get unlimited personal prints, if something, for whatever reason, happens with the first ones you can just print another. You can choose the exact material you want your parts to be made out of. You choose how strong you print it, there will be no guessing. There are no shipping fees, import fees or wait times. You know what you are getting. The pricing is competitive with similar offers of printed parts on eBay.

Use of this file

Now that this is out of the way, I must talk about some restrictions on the use of these files. As you may see when scrolling to the bottom the files will ONLY be for PERSONAL USE , I do not want these files to be re-sold or used to make risers that will be just sold later. All parts have markings about the creator and original shearing platform.

Future part updates

As the Outer Skins are replaceable there is the possibility of adding embossed lettering on the side. If I see enough people wanting these versions then I may add them at no extra cost. Also you could always comment with ideas and maybe I'll add them to the collection. I'm always open for updates in the files, comments are the best way to let me know, preferably with pictures. But remember that these cars were built in the 90s so there may be small alignment differences from one to another.

Design

Outer skins

I have designed these outer skins to be universal cross all my stand types, but some IMPORTANT notes, these skins should not touch the actual body or wing, because then the stress of slamming your trunk may damage them and may need to be replaced. There should always be a cap between outer skin and the wing, all the functional work is done by the stand. The Outer Skin is hollow to keep the material use down and printing times fast, also helps with flexing.

The material of the outer skin has a bit more leeway as its not a structural part. It can be printed from any material up from PETG, including PETG, just don't use PLA as it will not tolerate outside weather conditions. I'd recommend using something like ABS or ASA that are easily sanded and painted.

Spoiler/Wing stands

This is the part where my design differs from all the other designs, after rigorous durability and adjustability testing I found that designing the wing stands as two different parts was the best bet between strength and adjustability. The wing is held up by only these stands that MUST be printed on their side, to align the printing layers at their strongest way. Any technical material up from ABS, including ABS, can be used. I have aligned the wing new position so that there is a straight through 65mm long bolt, that takes most of the stress.

Now to the adjustable part, I know that these cars are used anywhere from track days to show cars, so I have given all of you guys the ability to choose your own panel cap, between trunk and skin and wing and skin. There are 9 different versions of these stands from 3mm to 1mm body side and same on the wing side. I'd recommend you start with 2+2mm stand and choose whatever meets your needs best after. Also to "nicen up" the body cap. I recommend using a foam mat and gluing it on the skin-body and skin-wing contact areas, as illustrated .

Fastener list (both sides combined)

I have listed all the needed fasteners for this project as my design uses separate Skin and Stand parts, these need to be assembled. I'll add a measurement list as what fastener sizes I have considered. For fastener strength the standard 8.8 rating is more than enough.

Bolts:

- M6 Head can't be bigger that 10mm DIA. and head hight should be about 6mm

- M4 Head can't be bigger that 7mm DIA. and head hight should be about 4mm

DIN 912 - Hex head

- 4x M6x25 - can be substituted with original spoiler mounting bolts

- 4x M4x16 or M4x14

Nuts:

- M6 Has been designed for 10mm width and 6mm height

- M4 Has been designed for 8mm width and 5mm height

Manufacturing

Printing

It was talked about previously, but better twice, anyways the wing risers are divided into two parts, stand and outer skin. These parts serve two very different purpose as one must stand the stresses of closing the trunk, wind and vibrations and other being just a visual part.

Stands

Both sides use same model, these parts MUST be printed on their side to have the layers be in their strongest orientation, when in use.
