Core One 2kg Twist Spool Holder – Remix

This is a remix combining two existing designs to create a more robust and user-friendly 2kg spool holder solution for the Prusa Core One .

The mounting concept is based on TheNomad’s Core One adapter , which allows the Prusa XL twist / expanding spool holder to mount to the Core One. The twist-style spool holder itself is derived from Karkovski’s expanding spool holder , originally designed to prevent accidental extension or collapse while in use.

Both designs work well. This remix focuses on making the system beefier, easier to assemble, and more durable long-term , especially in a tight installation area.

Assembly Overview

- Remove the stock Core One spool holder from the printer. (Keep the screws we will use them.)

- Install M3 heat-set inserts into the base adapter.

- Place the M6 tee nut into the base adapter.

- Assemble the twist spool holder onto the base, ensuring the key way features are aligned.

- Thread the M6×75 bolt through the center of the spool holder and into the tee nut. (This is a good chance to break free the print-in-place twist spool holder if it is still stuck, before the M6 Bolt is fully tight, otherwise it will bind on the base.)

- Tighten until secure, but do not overtighten. The twist mechanism should move smoothly without binding.

- Mount the completed assembly to the Core One using the original M3 screws removed in Step 1.

Recommended Print Settings (Important)

These settings are required for proper fit and function.

- 0.2mm layer height

- 4 perimeters

- 6 top / 5 bottom layers

- 30 %+ infill

Material Recommendations

- PETG for the twist spool holder (slippery materials work best)

- ABS or ASA for the base adapter

Notes

- The base adapter and twist spool holder are designed to work together as a matched set, they are NOT interchangable with Nomad's or Karkovski's designs unfortunately.

- Tighter internal tolerances mean print profiles must be well tuned.

- Poor print quality may result in friction or binding in the twist mechanism, be sure your machine is well tuned before hitting print.
