M8 Clamping Knob for Hex Bolts – Wabeco Drill Stand / M8 Knauf

Printable M8 clamping knob for hex bolts.

I use this knob on my Wabeco drill stand, but it can also be useful for other workshop fixtures, jigs, machines or clamping applications that use M8 hex bolts.

Two versions are included:

- Standard knob

- Longer / extended version

The knob is designed to hold an M8 hex bolt and provide a larger, more comfortable grip for tightening and loosening by hand.

Hardware

Required hardware:

- M8 hex bolt

Depending on the application, choose the bolt length that fits your fixture or machine.

Assembly

Insert the M8 hex bolt into the printed knob.

Depending on your printer tolerances and the exact bolt head dimensions, the fit may be tight or may require light adjustment. If needed, carefully press the bolt into place or slightly clean up the opening.

For a permanent connection, the bolt can also be fixed with a suitable adhesive.

Print settings

Recommended material:

- PETG for a tougher workshop part

- PLA is also possible for lighter use

Suggested settings:

- 0.2 mm layer height

- 4 perimeter walls

- 4 top layers

- 4 bottom layers

- 25–40% infill

- Supports: depending on print orientation and version

For higher strength, use more walls and a higher infill. The part should be printed strong enough for hand-tightening applications.

Notes

This is not a high-torque metal replacement part. Use it for normal hand-tightening applications only. Do not overtighten the printed knob, especially when printed in PLA.

Please check the fit with your specific M8 bolt before final use.
