Prusa CORE-ONE Internal Cabin Air Filter

I didn't realize how much fine dust comes off of the printer from PLA and other filament while printing. Printing around a kilogram a day, you will see it fast.

Files attached to this project are version-7 of my revisions. The blue PLA prototype you see in my pics is version-1. Version-1 was printed to check general geometry and filter fitment.

Version-8 now released. Same geometry as Version-7, but has magnet pockets in it.

Version-8 uses a 1/4” diameter magnet by 1/8” thick. These ones from McMaster Carr are strong.

Magnet pockets are 0.257” diameter, and 0.130” tall.

Prusa CORE-ONE Internal Cabin Air Filter

My internal fan blades are full of filament dust. I usually run eSun, PolyMaker, and / or 3D Fuel PLA.

This prototype mod will let me pre filter the dust with a cheaper HEPA filter, and keep the PLA dust out of the fans. To fit these filters in, you move the fans to the outside. Filter size is also a constraint inside.

Filter base attaches with 3mm socket head cap screws on the inside. On the outside I will use 3mm thread couplers to attach items on the outside.

Filter top cover is probably optional. Filters are snug on insertion. Filter pocket walls also taper 3 deg to help hold the filter snug and provide a airtite mod. Plus the fans will create suction (neg air pressure) to help hold them too.

I will most likely use magnets inserted into the prints to hold the top cover in place. This Prototype has no magnet pockets. Mod it yourself if needed.

I also have the PRUSA external HEPA filter, so that will also be changed. For me the PRUSA Filters are sometimes difficult to come by in the USA. Yes, I can order from PRUSA with an additional $20 for S&H for FEDEX. I think there are better local alternatives.

I plan on keeping the PRUSA external blower unit. It works well. I have found that the Tesla Model 3 / Y cabin HEPA-Carbon air filter will be the final external filter. Very available here in the USA.

In staying true to Prusa's Open Community License (OCL v1), I have included the step files from my design for this.
