Volvo V70 / S60 / S80 — Drop-in Cupholder (OEM-style)

A clean, drop-in cupholder that turns the unused coin tray (muntenbakje) of your 2001-era Volvo center console into a proper can/bottle holder. Designed to look factory once finished — no drilling, no disassembly, fully reversible.

What Fits

Verified to hold:

- 250 ml slim cans — energy drinks, slim sodas

- Standard 330 ml / 33 cl cans — soft drinks, beer, regular sized cans

- Fast-food medium takeaway cups (≈ 0.4 L) — common drive-through size

- Coffee cups up to 70 mm rim diameter — espresso through medium takeaway, all variants tested

Fit & Compatibility

- Verified : Volvo V70 (2001)

- Should fit : Volvo S60 and S80 of the same generation — shared center console platform

- Mounts in : the rectangular console compartment without a lid (the coin tray slot, next to the lidded compartment)

- Mounting method : clean clamp-fit using the slot's existing geometry. No screws, no adhesive, no trim removal.

- Reversible : pops in and out at will

Heads-up: these consoles are 25+ years old. Tolerances drift with age, heat cycles, and previous owners. Always do the vase-mode test print described below before committing to a full print.

Two Variants — pick what fits your patience

A. Two-piece design (recommended for OEM look)

Top and bottom print as separate parts, then snap together.

The trick: print the top piece upside down . That way the first layer becomes the visible top surface. If your first layer is dialed in, the finished part has a clean, smooth top — exactly the surface that catches the eye in the console.

- Better surface for sanding + painting if you want full OEM-grade finish

- Slightly more assembly

B. Single-piece variant (just want it done)

Print, drop in, done.

- Faster

- One file, one print

- Aesthetic is acceptable but won't reach the same finish quality as variant A

Print Settings (recommended)

- Material — read carefully, this part lives in a hot car:

- ABS or ASA: recommended (minimum). Car interiors easily pass 50 °C in summer, often higher. ABS/ASA handles that without softening. ASA has better UV stability if relevant; ABS is fine for this hidden, low-stress location. Yes, you'll deal with warp and fumes during printing — that's the price of a part that survives the dashboard. The displayed and verified model is printed in Polymaker ASA.

- CF-filled variants (PETG-CF, ABS-CF, etc.): even better if you have them. Lower thermal expansion, higher dimensional stability, less warp risk over years of heat cycles. Worth the abrasive nozzle wear for a part that lives in a heat box.

- PETG: questionable. Better than PLA, but sustained summer interior temps can still soften it under load. Acceptable in a garaged car. Not recommended if it bakes in direct sun.

- PLA / PLA+: don't. A parked car already passes PLA's softening point on a 20 °C day with sun. It will warp eventually. Earlier iterations of this design that were printed in regular PLA are now repurposed as plant pots (plantenbakjes) — they survive in the garden, not in the dashboard.

- Layer height : 0.20 mm standard, 0.16 mm for the top piece if you want a finer visible surface

- Walls : 3+ perimeters

- Infill : 15–20% is enough — this part isn't load-bearing

- Supports : not required if you follow the print orientation (top piece upside down)

- Bed adhesion : glue stick / 3DLAC / brim — your preference
