Update! I made a new version with even more compatible extrusion types:

https://www.printables.com/model/493621-aluminium-extrusion-nuts-and-t-nuts

A set of easy to print and use nuts for 2020 and 3030 extrusions.

There are 3 types: Heat-Set inserts, Hexnut and Screw-In.

As the names state, you can choose the ones you need and what materials you have around.

Some sizes are not fesable due to minimal wall thickness and strength requirements, , thus I did not add them.

I personally recommend the ones with the Heat-Set inserts. They are the most durable ones and perform reliably.

Printable in pretty much any plastic except flex, whilst PC is propably the best option. Since it is so small, a 0.4mm nozzle and 100% infill is a must. Max. 0.2mm layer heigth, to properly use the Hexnut-Variants 0.1mm is required.

Please check the required hole diameter for your insert before printing the part. I used the ruthex brand, CNC citchen has the same sizing.

M2: 3.2mm

M2.5, M3: 4.0mm

M4: 5.6mm

Whilst most look similar, they can require diferent sizing. I added .f3d files to edit if needed.

Please check the length of your inserts. The max length for the 2020 nut is 4.5mm and for the 3030 nut is 6mm.

It is advised to use short inserts for the the following sizes:

2020 M2.5, M3

3030 M4

If you do not have short inserts, you can aslo dremel off the last rib from the normal sized ones. This worked fine for me.

To insert the inserts use minimal heat to prevent deformation of the thin throat at the top.

To prevent issus when installing in the extrusion, let it cool down after insertion and run a screw or tap trough the threads to clear the hole. If the bootom is not flat, use a knife, file or sandpaper the remove excess material

The Hexnut variants are designed in a way that they do not require any support when printing at 0.1mm layer heigth. When using support be aware that it will be relatively hard to remove due to the underside geometry of the hexnut hole. The nuts are designed to be press-fitted into the plastic. If it does not hold too well for you, might consider using a small drop of glue to hold them in.

The Screw-In Variants have a chamfer at the top to help with starting the screw. Before you insert the nut into the extrusion, run a sccrew into the nut to cut the threads and ease the installation process.
