Modular Cupholder Mount (ND Miata, NF 124 Spider)

Printing Instructions:

- Mount: flip 180° in slicer, supports, 30% infill

- Twist-lock male: 30% infill

- Cupholder: 10% infill

- Notes: Twist-lock male is intended to be press-fit on bottom of cupholder. Scale down/sand if too tight, scale up/glue if too loose.

Print settings:

- Layer height: 0.2mm

- Wall loops: 3

- Infill pattern: Gyroid

- Brim: No

Support settings will vary but my suggested starting point:

- On base plate only

- Type: Normal (not tree)

- Top Z distance: 0.265mm

- Base pattern spacing: 2mm

- Top interface layers: 3

- Top interface spacing: 0.2mm

- Support/object XY distance: 3mm

Description:

Wasn't satisfied with existing models and didn't want to shell out for OEM replacements, all of which would still struggle with larger drinks.

Initially designed as a single model with built-in cupholders but realized there's potential, so I iterated a bit to reduce filament use and make it a modular mount with twist-lock mechanisms.

Intended for mounting in the central location of vehicles (hence the dual-brackets). Tested on US car (left driving position), may need modification to use on right-hand drive vehicles.

Included cupholder model is 2.8 inch inner diameter, good for a reasonably snuck fit on most soda bottles/energy drinks/fast food drinks. Mount can fit two of these, but may design a larger cupholder that can fit larger bottles (e.g. Stanley, coffee mugs, etc.), which could be installed in the central slot.

See reference twist-lock-mechanism to design your own models and add the mechanism to the bottom as-is (size unchanged from original model) for mounting. If using my twist-lock male model, you'll want the hole on the bottom of whatever you mount with it to be at least 10mm deep.

Designed in Fusion 360, may upload the source designs at some point but they're a bit amateur :P

Pictured print is in black Creality CR-ABS. Initial prototype was in Elegoo Rapid PETG and also felt fine nice too. Printer used is the Qidi Q1 Pro. First fitments after printing were a little tight (and extra sturdy as a result). A touch less so after a couple removals but it's at a nice balance.

Update 1:

- Rather than fiddle with annoying supports on the cupholder, I split it into the cupholder itself (now with a hole) and the twist-lock male end that can press-fit. Gap is modeled at a 0.15mm gap. You can play with the scaling if the fit isn't where you'd like it to be, or just sand/glue as you'd like. Twist-lock bumps and dimples have been removed as well.

Update 2:

- Tested the cupholder with a fast-food style cup (e.g. a large soda cup that starts narrower but gets wider as it goes up) and it held alright but I didn't fully trust it. Reworked the cupholder design to still have that narrow bottom which can hold energy drinks and bottles well, but it opens up after a bit to let larger drinks nestle in better. Also did some fun slopes to be more space/filament-efficient.
