Description

This is a fidget spinner that is a standalone two-stage planetary gear system, with no need to have an outer ring for spinning. There are four ways to spin shown in the gif: spin connector 1, spin connector 2, spin the 15-tooth gears around the 18 tooth gears, or spin like a traditional fidget spinner. Also, if you print the stand, you get the expected behavior of a multi-stage planetary gear box -- that should count as a fifth way, right?

No non-printed parts at all. Parts assemble through printed threads that are installed with either a flat head screwdriver or the included flathead tool.

What/How to Print

I grouped the parts you need to print in the .3mf files. Download one of them that fits your fancy! You can even fit all the individual parts needed for the full spinner and stand on a Prusa mini. Print one and enjoy. I have had a lot of fun with this one so far.

No supports needed, standard 0.2mm layer height, filament/color of your choice. 3:40 print time with my mk3s on a .2mm quality print.

Quick note on Tolerancing

There is a standard 0.2mm radial tolerance on spinning items to ensure adequate clearance and good spin! The thread tolerancing is slightly tighter so it won't come undone once assembled. If your printer shrinks IDs and that leads to gears not spinning properly, I'd recommend checking if your printer needs an xy-hole compensation update.

I made assembly instructions in a PDF. Check it out unless you're ambitious and want to figure it out yourself.

IMPORTANT: If you don't have the right screwdriver for assembly, print out the install tool (the last part on the file list). It can be used instead of a small flathead screwdriver.
