Описание

I designed this lithophane to be as slim and modular as possible without any obstructions for the light inside the frame, while still housing 2x AAA batteries and a 3D-printed magnetic switch.

Currently you can use any 9:16 ratio image with width set to 121mm to have a good fit with the frame. For the lithophane in the photos I used MakerLab Lithophane Maker without a frame, with margins set to 0mm and 9:16 ratio.

Assembly:

For the assembly you will need four 5x3mm magnets, any wire that can be squished between magnet and plastic to create good contact, a 5V LED strip, hot glue or super glue, and in my case aluminum foil to create contact with the batteries.

Switch

For the switch, you need to add a small drop of super glue at the bottom just to hold the magnet in the print, or else it will pop out when the switch moves. It's best to assemble the switch without any glue first to see how it works, then repeat the process with glue. Add a drop of glue at the bottom before you insert the magnet, then a drop on top after inserting it, and squeeze the magnet against the wire to make contact.

Batteries

To make a connection with the batteries, I just wrapped the wires in enough aluminum foil to create a tight fit between the two batteries, as it was the simplest solution that works. The battery cover slides on from either the top or the bottom.

The rest can be seen in the images, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

If you dislike assembling the switch and using batteries, there's a clean version without the batteries and switch, so you can punch a hole for a USB-C cable or any other way of connecting the LED strip. Blender files are also available if you want to make adjustments to the frame. In the Blender files you can also find the older v1 of the switch if it's more to your liking. Dimensions of v1 switch are the same as v2 and they fit the same hole in the frame.
