2.5” Wide Gear Lid Box (four distinct lengths)

Bring mechanical motion to your organization with the Gear Lid Box. Designed with precision gear-driven side panels, opening the box rotates the integrated gear mechanism smoothly. This model features a 2.5” width and 1.5” height , and is available in four distinct lengths: 4.5”, 5”, 5.5”, and 6” .

Specifications & Dimensions

- Total Box Length: Selected length + 0.25” (including side gears)

- Box Width: 3”

- Total Height: 1.75” (1.875” total height including the lid)

- Wall Thickness: 0.125”

Print Settings

- Orientation: Print all parts with their flat profile sides directly on the build plate. Print hinge pins with the head down flat on the build plate.

- Material: PLA

- Layer Height: 0.12mm to 0.20mm

- Wall Loops / Perimeters: 4+ (Extra perimeters add significantly more functional strength than cranking up infill percentages alone).

- Infill: 20% or higher (Gyroid or Grid pattern works great).

- Supports: Depending on your printer's bridging capabilities, you may need to add supports for specific overhangs.

Hardware & Parts Checklist

- Main Body & Lid: Print 1 set of box and lid components for your chosen length.

- Alignment Pins: Print 8 total.

- Hinge Pins: Print 4 total.

Assembly Instructions

1. Lid Assembly:

- Insert alignment pins into gears (requires 8 total alignment pins).

- Ensure you match the correct gears to the correct side of the lid.

- The alignment peg holes on the gears are spaced slightly different on each side to make orientation foolproof.

- Glue the lid and side gears together securely (repeat for both sides x2).

2. Box Assembly:

- Test-fit the hinge pins into the box housing.

- Pins should form a tight friction fit into the gears, but rotate with a smooth, loose fit into the box body.

- Lightly sand contact surfaces if there is too much friction.

- Place the completed lid assembly onto the box and insert the 4 hinge pins to lock it into place.
