Описание
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Runs on USB-C (5v on everything) - 45mm diameter. 30mm tall - All parts prints solid - Should be PETG or better, due to LED heat - Base should be dark - Lens is transparent (can be spray-painted to make it more clear) - Lens needs to be lightly glued to the base - Divider is best printed dark, but can be painted white after, which I did - Divider is printed upside down - If your lights are flickering, check WLED documentation. Might need a level shifter - Controller needs to be glued as well. Not hotglue, as that might get soft from the heat - I have no idea what the WiFi range is - Supports 2 different controllers - Needs only 3 short wires, unless you need a shifter - Should also be usable with esphome instead of wled (not tested, as I see no benefits) - Optional wallmount. It's for outside use or longer range, as it supports larger antennas. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These types of lights are commonly used for showing the status of things like machinery operating, doors\gates opening, faults, or whatever else needs a visual indicator. Also useful if you wear headphones a lot, where you can't hear speaker notifications.
This can be used with Home Assistant to indicate when any trigger goes off in an automation, like a door opening, motion sensing, doorbell, waterleak sensor, equipment going on\off, and tons of other things.
While intended for home automation systems, you can trigger it using external devices instead, like a relay or switch once WLED is set up. To do that you can setup one of the pins in WLED to be used as a pushbutton, which will turn the light on and off. With this method you would not have to rely on automation systems. Read documentation to learn about that.
WLED is an open-source program for esp microcontrollers that is made to control addressable LED's. It's very easy to install by using the web-installer found here. Make sure to read the documentation basics to avoid common issues with flickering lights (often caused by a lack of level-shifting) and other weird problems.
- Some level shifters that will work are the TXS0102\TXS0104\TXS0108 types. These are pretty small and much easier to wire then the recommended model --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will need either the Seeed Studio esp32 C3 or the esp32 called the "SuperMini" for this project. Anything else will not fit. These are pretty cheap units on AliExpress 2-5usd.
Some differences between these units are:
- Super is half the cost of the Seeed - Super has onboard antenna (not possible to extend range) - Super has not been fully tested, but it installed fine. Should be seen as experimental - The Super base supports both controllers, but rear support for the Seeed is worse.
- Some say WLED has a bug that may cause some C3's to run hot. My Super sits around 55°C, which is fine for PETG, but PLA might get soft. Should avoid PLA on this anyway.
- Seeed has a flexible external u.FL antenna that is rolled up inside the LED divider. This can support longer range antennas, which could be useful with the outside wallmount - Seeed seems to have more shielding, so maybe more resistant to interference? - Seeed has far superior documentation (a wiki) - Seeed seems overall higher quality You will also need a 12-led addressable ring with a diameter of 38-38.5mm, so check the specs before buying. There are some links in the comments.
- Watch out if using white lights on full power. You may overheat the unit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changelog:
v1.1
- Added another base that supports the esp32 "SuperMini". This is very similar to the Seeed one, but it has an onboard antenna and is half the cost, around 2.5usd - Added a few vents to get some air into the light. It can get pretty hot with white lights. One hole is also used for an external antenna cable, should you need one - Added the wallmount. Light needs to be glued or taped to the mount. It also needs an angled cable or adapter (see photo). This needs to be inserted before the light is attached to the mount, or you can't get it in. Wallmount Is made to be somewhat resistant to rain v1.2
- Added a divider for LED rings with a 23mm inside diameter, which a user was using.
