This project started as a need to fenagle a papertowel holder out of a piece of scrap dowel rod I had lying around. Afterwards I expanded the design to fit on the end of many of the common dowel sizes you might find in a US hardware store. Designed to use common drywall screws (8.5mm dia head, 4.5mm dia shank)
Full disclosure– I did not go out and buy all the various dowel sizes to test fit these, I only tried the sizes I had readily available at home… Your mileage may vary. Please feel free to check out the OnShape Document. These can be easily resized to fit pretty much whatever by changing the variable dowelDia (clearances are automatically baked in, but you may need to tweak to suit your needs)
I printed this in PETG, the 32mm (1 1/4in dowel) took about 45 minutes on an X1C. Using only one I was able to make a very sturdy papertowel holder. One on either end of your dowel would likely be quite skookum. Take caution when selecting screws for smaller dowel sizes as there are not thru-holes.
