PCB Case 42x42: 3D Models for Board Enclosures

This collection gathers 3D models for small board enclosures: parametric boxes, snap-fit housings and cases with cooling openings. Most are made for 3D printing on a desktop 3D printer and shared as STL or editable source files. It helps when you need a housing around a board of roughly 42x42 mm and want to compare several approaches before printing. Polyzon does not confirm whether models are free, their price, license, official status, affiliation, safety or fitness. Check the current terms at the source.

«PCB Case 42x42: 3D Models for Board Enclosures»

The models differ mainly in how the lid closes and how the board is held. Some are fully parametric, so you set the outer size, wall thickness and port cutouts in the source file; others are fixed shapes with screw bosses, snap-fit clips or a sliding cover. Cooling-oriented designs add vents, fan mounts or open sides, while plain project boxes keep the board fully enclosed.

Before printing, read the author's page for the internal dimensions, the number of parts and whether supports are needed. Check the board outline, mounting hole spacing, connector heights and cable exits against your own board, since a 42x42 footprint can still differ in hole positions. Also look at the material and layer settings the author lists, and at photos of real prints, because thin walls and snap-fit clips behave differently in PLA and PETG.

If the first results are too narrow, try related terms such as enclosure, housing, project box, dev board case or DIN-rail mount. Searching by board name, connector type or the size in millimetres usually narrows the list faster than a generic phrase. You can also look for parametric generators, which you adapt to your own dimensions instead of matching a fixed model.

FAQ

Sıkça sorulan sorular

What does 42x42 refer to in these models?
It usually describes the board footprint the case was designed around, in millimetres. The outer case is larger, so check the stated internal size rather than the title alone.
How do I check that a case fits my board?
Compare the board outline, mounting hole spacing and connector positions with the dimensions on the author's page. Port cutouts and USB or power connectors are the parts that most often need adjustment.
Do these enclosures need supports?
It depends on the design: many are printed in two flat parts without supports, while cases with overhangs or recessed ports may need them. The author's page usually states this.
Can I change the size or cutouts?
Parametric models include editable source files where you set dimensions, wall thickness and openings. Fixed models can still be modified in a mesh editor, but that takes more work.
