Description

A plain, unfluted column in the Tuscan manner: a smooth, gently tapering shaft on a rounded torus base, topped by a single ring (astragal), a simple rounded echinus and a flat square abacus. It stands 65.2 mm tall with a 32 mm square abacus.

The Tuscan order is the simplest of the classical orders, described by the Roman architect Vitruvius and later codified by Renaissance writers. It is essentially a stripped-down Doric with a plain shaft and base, and has been widely used for porches, arcades and colonnades.

Its clean surfaces make it ideal for painting as marble or weathered stone, for building colonnades on tabletop terrain and dioramas, for use as a plinth or riser for miniatures, or as part of a classical orders teaching set.

Print tips: print upright on the base. The abacus projects slightly beyond the echinus, so add minimal supports under its corners or print upside down on the abacus.

Original design modelled by 3dancientarts. Part 04 of 12 of the Classical Columns collection.
