Description

I wanted my printer to say funny things when it started up, started printing, finished printing, screwed up,etc. So I went on aliexpress, as you do, found this:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006235994736.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.40.70501802PtCfMt

Which is a unbeleivably cheap, crappy usb speaker, but it does work well enough.

Some things to note:

- you need to disassemble the speaker, there is a hidden screw on the rounded back under a little plastic cover thing, I pulled that out with a dental pick. - drill two clearance holes for m2 screws through the center of the back case of the speaker, you'll see there are two round extrusions in there to support the speakers, just eyeball it, drill a 2 or 2.5mm hole (cant remember what I used, start small…) - attach the back to the bracket, put the speaker back together, then mount the lot to the riser, and extrusion in your electronics bay - Make sure you turn the usb power limit up on your pi, in raspi-config, as the stock 500ma (i think) will trip your ports off when you turn the volume up. You may also want to ensure you have sufficient thickness of wires running to your pi to provide the power, I've had a few cases where the sudden surge of power the speaker can draw will trigger the undervoltage throttle. Adding a second 5v & gnd to my pi solved it, as well as making sure my 5v rail was turned up to about 5.15-5.2v (ymmv, do so at your own risk) - I used libsox to play the audio, but you can do it however you want. basically: sudo apt install libsox libsox-fmt-mp3 amixer set PCM 147 play audio.mp3 - I installed Arksine's gcode shell extensions using kiauh: https://github.com/dw-0/kiauh/blob/master/docs/gcode_shell_command.md - Using that I setup some basic gcode macros: [gcode_shell_command SET_VOLUME_MAX] command: amixer set PCM 147 timeout: 4 verbose: True

[gcode_shell_command JOBS_DONE] command: play -v 1.5 /home/admin/printer_data/config/audio/jobs_done.mp3 timeout: 4 verbose: True [gcode_macro JOBS_DONE] gcode: RUN_SHELL_COMMAND CMD=JOBS_DONE

[gcode_shell_command READY_AUDIO] command: play -v 1.5 /home/admin/printer_data/config/audio/ready.mp3 timeout: 4 verbose: True [gcode_macro READY_AUDIO] gcode: RUN_SHELL_COMMAND CMD=READY_AUDIO

[gcode_shell_command START_AUDIO] command: play -v 1.5 /home/admin/printer_data/config/audio/work.mp3 timeout: 4 verbose: True [gcode_macro START_AUDIO] gcode: RUN_SHELL_COMMAND CMD=START_AUDIO
