20x40 End Caps: STL Models for Profile Extrusion

This collection gathers STL files for caps and plugs that close the open ends of aluminium and steel profiles, most often 20x40 and neighbouring cross-sections. Alongside plain end caps you will find open-side versions, corner connectors and round tube plugs. It is useful when you are finishing a frame or a rail with a 3D printer and want the cut ends covered.

«20x40 End Caps: STL Models for Profile Extrusion»

The largest group covers caps for V-slot and T-slot extrusions, with 20x40 and 20x20 as the most common cross-sections and 40x40 appearing often as well. Some are simple covers that press into the slot, while others are open-sided or shaped so the slot stays usable for later additions. A separate group is structural rather than decorative: corner brackets and L-connectors that join two profiles instead of closing one. Round plugs for tubes and pipes form another group, usually sized by outer diameter rather than by slot.

When choosing a model, note the cross-section the author states and how the cap is held in place: friction in the slot, a screw through the profile, or a lip that wraps the outside. Check the wall thickness and whether the file is a single part or needs assembly. On the author's model page, read the material and slicer settings listed there and look at photos of real prints to judge how the edges and the slot opening come out.

Search terms differ by region and by profile system, so try synonyms: end cap, endkappe, plug, tappo, cover, and profile names such as V-slot, T-slot or extrusion. Adding the cross-section as digits, for example 2040 or 40x40, narrows the results quickly. Related searches that often lead to useful files include corner connector, profile bracket, rail cap and profile box.

FAQ

Preguntas frecuentes

What does 20x40 mean in these models?
It is the cross-section of the profile in millimetres, 20 mm by 40 mm. Caps are drawn to that outer size, and the slot type, V-slot or T-slot, changes the shape of the lip.
How do I work out which cap size I need?
Measure the outer width and height of your profile and note the slot width. Authors usually state both on the model page, so compare those figures with your measurement before printing.
Do these caps need supports?
It depends on the shape. Flat caps often print without them, while caps with a deep recess or an overhanging lip may need them. The author's page usually shows the orientation used.
Can I scale a cap to another profile size?
Scaling changes the slot lip together with the outer size, so a scaled cap may no longer hold. It is usually better to find a file drawn for that cross-section.
