Описание
An open, one-piece crate sized for Yoto audio-player cards (credit-card size according to third-party sources, 85.6 x 54 mm; check one of your cards). The cards stand in 2 or 3 lanes and lean back 12° against an inclined back wall, behind a low front lip, so the picture on the front card of each lane faces the child. To find a card, tip the front cards forward onto the lip to see the next cover, like flipping through records, then stand them back up. There is floor space in front of about 40 cards per lane for that. Optional flat index dividers separate stories, music, sleep and so on.
Validation status (please read): digitally validated only, with CAD geometry and card-fit checks, slicer checks without supports, and stability calculations on the CAD model. It has not been physically printed and has not been tried with real Yoto cards yet. All pictures are 3D renders of the CAD model (some with plain proxy cards, one a cut-away with the front wall removed; the upright box in the comparison picture is a generic illustration, not a real product), except the "How it works" side section and the dimension sheet, which are drawings generated from the model. None is a photograph.
Placement (required)
In short: stick the base down at all four corners with removable adhesive putty or mounting pads (recommended); a wall behind it only stops backward tipping.
The crate is light (about 78 g), so a child's push can tip it. Calculated on the CAD model, a free-standing 2-lane crate tips with a horizontal push at the top of the cards of:
- backwards: about 0.4 N with one card per lane, rising to about 1.3 to 1.8 N when full (0.4 N is roughly the weight of 40 g; 3 lanes: about 0.6 N rising to 1.9 to 2.7 N). Pushing the cards back after browsing easily exceeds this.
- sideways: about 0.5 N with one card per lane, up to about 3.2 N when full;
- forwards, pushing a tipped fan of cards: about 1.5 N with few cards, up to about 4.3 N with both lanes full and tipped.
What helps:
- Fix it down with removable adhesive putty or removable mounting pads under BOTH the front corners of the base and the back corners (the crate tips about an edge, so the pads must be on the side that lifts). This is the only listed option meant to resist tipping in every direction (not tried on a printed crate). Recommended.
- Standing it with its back against a wall or a heavy object stops it tipping backwards only (the common case).
- An anti-slip mat alone does NOT stop tipping: it only stops sliding.
Why
Families collect dozens of Yoto cards, and children pick them by the picture, often before they can read. One parent review describes the usual drawbacks: with a pouch it is hard to choose by sight, so the cards all come out; cards on improvised racks slip sideways; binders mean flicking page by page. Many of the card boxes we checked stand the cards upright or under a lid, so only the tops show. Open lean-back holders and slot stands exist too; this crate gives each group of cards its own lane of about 40, with the floor in front of the stack left free, so a full lane can be flipped through in place.
Features
- Browse in place: tip the front cards forward onto the lip to see the next cover (deep in a lane you see its upper part), then stand them back up. No taking cards out.
- The child sees the covers: about 70 % of the front card's height shows above the 25.5 mm lip.
- 2 or 3 lanes side by side, so a collection can be grouped, with optional dividers.
- Cards cannot fall sideways: each lane is only 1.6 mm wider than a card.
- The flat base reaches 46.5 mm in front of the lip, under tipped cards and dividers, so pressing straight down on them does not tip the crate forward (calculated on the CAD model for every fill level; not tried with real cards). Pushing the cards backwards, sideways or forwards CAN tip a free-standing crate: see Placement.
- One support-free part per crate: no hardware, glue or assembly (you will need removable adhesive putty or mounting pads to fix it down, see Placement). Rounded edges and corners.
